You might not be able to see the forest for the trees, but you can see the downtown Huntley square. Last month, the Village of Huntley removed seven of the eight trees decorating the downtown area, according to Barbara Read, Village of Huntley Management Assistant.
Read said the village removed the trees because they were hazardous or could become hazardous in the next year due to their old age.
“The bark was splitting, the branches were falling off…they could have fallen over at any time,” she said, regarding three of the removed trees.
The one remaining tree, a memorial plant, is still healthy and vibrant, Read added.
The village plans to replace the removed trees with larger ones this spring.
