For several hours a week, I work at the Huntley Library re-shelving items. During this process, opportunity presents itself for me to peruse materials Iād not see while looking on my own. Very often I say to myself, oh, that looks interesting … and then I keep it or jot down the info. Iāll share some with you that pique my interest.
Huntley
Nancy S. Bacheller

This is a book I went looking for after a fascinating LLL presentation at Prairie Lodge. The topic was Huntley dairy farm history. One of the 3 speakers is also author of a book on Huntley history, and the pictures in her fine presentation were only a portion of the many in her book. Of course there is a copy at the Huntley Library, so I had to find it. What an easy way to learn our Villageās history! No laborious chapters to readā¦just 127 pages of photos with 3-4 sentences of explanation. Ever wonder about the name of Deicke Park? Check out page 36. Did you ever get in free at Wrigley Field on Ladies Day? Check out page 60 to see the Huntley woman who made that possible! How about a picture of our tiny post office when it was shiny and new? See page 126.

On the new bookshelves in the non-fiction section, I found this title: 15 Things You Should Give Up To Be Happy. How could anyone resist checking that out? Arenāt you curious to know what those things areā¦and if you can give them up? Or maybe you already have!
Gone Again
James Grippando
FIC GRI
Iāve noticed a seeming proliferation of recent fiction titles that include the word āgone.ā You probably can think of one yourself. This morning I found another among the new books; Gone Again by James Grippando, a trial lawyer turned novelist. I usually donāt read authors whose works take up an entire library shelf, but the back cover plot description sounded complex, plus it was in large print! The āgoneā person is a teen. A man is charged, convicted and sentenced, but then the mom reports to her lawyer that the missing teen called her on the phone. Hoax? Frame-up? Police misconduct?
