Community issues involving Sun City governance and management are not widely discussed in the community, but are an integral part of theĀ Sun City experience andĀ deserving of our attention. Managing an $8,000,000 budget serving 9,000 residents is no small matter.
It would be unrealistic to expect that Sun City issues and news be reported as completely as TV, radio, print and the internet report local, national and international news, but nevertheless, the need to report news exists and is important. A timely process to update news and issues has yet to be established in the community. Granted, the process is not a simple one, but one that can be developed.
Brief announcements in the weekly eNews or board meetings provide very limited information. Updates and follow-ups are almost nonexistent.Ā All Sun City communication venues, such as the Lifestyle magazine, focus on activity scheduling and entertainment programs.
A number of residents have commented that attempts to obtain information or clarification about various community issues via e mail, personal inquiries, board meeting resident comment opportunities, or written requests continue to be a challenge.
The impact of this matter on our lives and lifestyle is minimal, but it does identify the gap or disconnect in the communication process between those who govern and manage, and those who are governed and managed.
It would be unfair to suggest that the responses and brief announcements are a deliberate plan not to share developing issues with the residents, but that practice, whatever the motivation, is in need of improvement.
A solution, which apparently hasĀ never been pursued, is available and worth considering.
