Jim and Nancy do not disclose the fact that they will review a restaurant before they attend, ensuring their reviews are unbiased and uninfluenced by their position with the Sun Day.
When Nancy opened up some mail, out popped a handy dandy 10% off coupon for Lumes Pancake House in Algonquin. Yes, we know our last article was about a pancake house. This is a new restaurant in the old Mimi’s Cafe building. Since the Dining Duo is always on the cutting edge of fast breaking food events, we felt obligated to review this restaurant, so don’t even think about complaining. The truth is, Nancy will go anywhere if she has a coupon for it.

You may or may not remember Mimi’s Cafe. This was a French themed pseudo bistro, which closed its doors in 2013. If you don’t remember what the inside looked like, you’re memory will be refreshed as soon as you enter. It’s a large family friendly restaurant with rooms containing a lot of booths and tables to suit everyone’s preference. From the lighting fixtures to the ever-present fleur de lis, the interior design has not been changed.
Nancy was scouring the menu frantically to find something that contained garlic, but sad to say, garlic is not usually in any breakfast items, except in the Eggers’ household. There is a section in the menu called the Breakfast Club. This awakened a long-forgotten memory in Nancy’s blonde brain of her high school days in detention hall. She was the only student to get detention for turning the detention hall into her own personal comedy club while serving her detention. Her mother often wondered why she came home on the late bus…She said, “For old times sake, I think I’ll order the Club 3” ($10). It was chilled juice (she chose tomato), 2 half slices of French toast, 2 strips of bacon, 2 sausage links, and 2 farm fresh eggs.
This morning, Jim wore his gray and blue Hawaiian shirt that had “Aloha” written all over it. Since he didn’t have his coffee this morning, and he’s a complete moron to begin with, the most creative thing he could think of ordering was the Aloha Fluffy Omelet ($10.50). This contained crisp pineapple, chopped bacon, Old Tyme ham, and Jack cheese. This was served with fresh potatoes, 2 buttermilk pancakes, or toast. He decided to try the pancakes since this is a pancake house.
This restaurant just opened its doors in the Algonquin Commons Shopping Mall the second week of May. There hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. They serve sandwiches, wraps and salads along with a varied breakfast menu. The menu is huge, so there is something for everyone.
Dining Duo Tip: Don’t ignore the salt and pepper mills on your table, they will add a lot of flavor to your breakfast entree.
FYI: Handicap accessible.
The price for our breakfast was $24.78, not including the handy dandy 10% off coupon.
Jim’s take: I wish the potatoes were shredded hash browns instead of what seemed to be the boiled, sliced, and then fried type.
Nancy’s take: I think I wore out the salt and pepper mill using them on my scrambled eggs. I must admit Jim’s pancakes had a lot of body to them.
