Grant Fritz (19), son of Sun City resident Gary Fritz of Neighborhood 35, competed in a Iron Man 70.3 competition on June 19 in Syracuse New York. The iron man 70.3 race had over 1,600 competitors and consisted of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike race and a 13.1 mile run.
Grant placed 4th in his age group of 18-24. Grant is an accomplished distance swimmer and high school graduate from Marmion Academy in Aurora, and placed 2nd overall in the swim. He biked 56 miles in 2 hours and 46 minutes, averaging over 20 miles an hour in the hills of New York State. He finished with a 13.1 mile run in 1 hour and 44 minutes, averaging 7:58 per mile. Grant’s final time for all events was 5 hours and 3 minutes. Grant has been competing in Iron Man races for two years, and has raced in Maryland, Texas and New York. Grant will close out his Iron Man competition with a 70.3 Iron Man in Racine Wisconsin in July and a full Iron Man 140.6 (2.4 swim, 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run) in August in Beautiful Coeur d’ Alene in Idaho.
