The 2016 Summer Olympics are over, but the thrill of competition is alive and well in the Sun City Bocce Ball Club. On Wednesday, August 31, their annual tournament was held on a beautiful, cool, summer evening. The 18 winning teams from each of the daily time slots competed for a chance to become the Grand Champion. One by one the field was narrowed down to two teams, winner takes all. The tension mounted when the contestants Josephine and Pete Sarullo versus Sandy and Chuck Petersen entered Court #2 to do mortal combat.
Anyone who feels watching Bocce Ball isn’t exciting has never seen it being played at the level of these two teams. The course of the game can totally change with just one ball. After a hard fought game, Josephine and Pete Sarulo emerged victorious with a score of 11 to 8. We wish to congratulate them on a well-deserved championship.
A good time was had by all due to the efforts of Ralph Chiappetta and all of the volunteers without which this would not have been possible. A special “thanks” goes out to Tom Hall Realty for supplying water, popcorn, and ice cream at this event.
