I read Deanna Loughran’s email blast with both surprise and disappointment. The director commented on how the residents of this community should ‘treat association leaders respectfully.’ I do not disagree with that statement, but the question arises as to why the reverse of this statement, that is, the association leaders should treat the residents respectfully, is not true.
In the August 17 board meeting, a board member humiliated a resident (this concerned a personal issue) while the audience was left feeling uncomfortable and the encounter was recorded for further viewing. No other board member attempted to stop the verbal assault. No respect shown here for the resident. There is also the ‘cease and desist’ order against Mr. Esau. Rather than respond to Mr. Esau’s phone calls, the board decided to take legal action (which I am sure we paid for) against Mr. Esau. No respect here; Mr Esau is a resident. Should I mention Meadow View pool? The residents voted on keeping one of the pools for resident use only but a new FSR employee wanted to change (trial) this decision. The board decided to go with the new employee’s decision to trial visitors. FSR received the respect, not the residents.
There are other issues but I sincerely hope I made my point Respect is a two way street, and the board seems much more interested in pleasing FSR than the residents. Being on the board should not be about egos, but about doing the right thing for the community.

Government at its best
The Village of Huntley’s elected officials and professional management team oversee and plan community affairs. They do a great job of governing and managing. That team stands out as an example of uncommon excellence amongst other multiple municipal bodies, large and small.
Based on simply observing the management of growth and downtown renovation, the Huntley governance team is doing its job. The citizens of Huntley thank all who are involved, including Trustees, Administration, Police; Fire, Parks, Library, Streets, Planning, Zoning, Marketing, District 158.
At the national level, the country has witnessed expressions of unbelievable vulgarisms, personal insults, and rancor by two individuals seeking the highest office in the land. That is an unthinkable state of affairs.
Both candidates have given a new meaning to the word “nasty.” The dignity of the office they seek has been demeaned beyond the intent and expectations of our Founding Fathers.
State leaders are less combative on the verbal level, but the disdain, lack of respect, and cooperation, which exists between the Governor and leaders of the Illinois Senate and House, is not in the best interests of the citizens they allege to serve.
Both Rutland and Grafton townships have had their own share of confrontations between the Township Boards and the Assessors offices.
Politically motivated disruption is pervasive at many levels of government.
The Village of Huntley is a refreshing model of effective governance.
