For several hours a week, I work at the Huntley Library re-shelving items. During this process, opportunity presents itself for me to peruse materials Iâd not see while looking on my own. Very often I say to myself, oh, that looks interesting … and then I keep it or jot down the info. Iâll share some with you that pique my interest.
True Believers
Kurt Anderson

This is a book I went looking for since I heard the author interviewed on NPR. The main character is diabetic, which has nothing do to with the plot; he simply thought it would be interesting to give her this attribute. The storyline takes place in 2012, told with flashbacks to Karenâs childhood in Wilmette, IL during the 1960s. James Bond, the Cold War, rock ân roll, Vietnam, JKF, and LBJ. All that sounds familiar, eh?
An Officer and A Spy
Robert Harris
FIC HAR
First this caught my eye because it made me think of Richard Gere in the movie Officer & a Gentleman (swoon). But the inside cover tells me itâs historical fiction about Alfred Dreyfus and the âscandal that mesmerized the worldâ at the turn of the 20th century. Although history was my college minor, I donât remember a thing about the famous incident. Maybe this will be an easy way to learn.
BEFORE THE FALL
Noah Hawley
FIC HAW
I thought this book was on the wrong cart because I was shelving fiction; the title sounded like a religious treatise. But indeed it is fiction, written by an award-winning author, screenwriter, and producer of FXâs series, Fargo. A private plane crashesâŚonly 2 survivors, a handsome swimmer and a 4-year-old boy. Looking at the chapter headings, I see the story is revealed from various charactersâ point of view, a style I like to read.
William Wrigley Jr.: Wrigleyâs Chewing Gum Founder
Joanne Mattern
JUV B Wrigley
Obviously, this book concerns a name recognizable for many reasons here in the Midwest. Even if youâre not partial to baseball, the next few weeks will bring the Chicago Cubs/Wrigley Field much attention; it makes sense to be informed, one way or another. With this kidsâ book, youâll have easy access to some background on the Wrigley fortune. Did you know William Wrigley Sr. had a soap company? Did you know Wrigley Jr. was a master of advertising? Which came first: Juicy Fruit or Spearmint? Spring training on a CA island?
