For the past three years, Terry Hora, long-time member and past president of the StingRays Swim Club, has continued his own initiated FREE “Learn to Swim Program” here at Sun City. This past June saw 20 residents of varying skill levels participate in Prairie Lodge’s indoor pool on all or any of the month’s five Wednesdays. The novice tankers were taught often, on an individual basis, regularly by ten swim club members. In fact, over the past two years, clinic students, Jackie McCague and Linda Haney, have excelled to the point of themselves becoming Stingrays!
Commenting on her past June experience, Linda said, “When I first talked to Terry, I could tread water but was flailing in it! Then I worked first on breathing and began to love the (swim) breathing! I worked next on kicking.”
Another tanker, fairly new to the sport, Mary Winker, summarized her successful clinic experience: “It’s becoming so much fun to swim! I’m thankful for the opportunity of skilled swimmers, one on one, teaching me correctly.”
Terry Hora will once again be opening his “Learn to Swim Clinic” on this November’s (2016) five Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m. Alice Costabile, James Balaton, and Maureen Dwyer promise to return this fall to continue perfecting what they began learning this past June. Why not join them in this fabulous opportunity to overcome a possible fear of the water or (for ease of swimming)to simply perfect your own swim stroke! Become more adept as you age at this healthy, “easy on your joints” aqua sport! A sign-up sheet is now available at Prairie Lodge’s Fitness Desk.
