Wainscott fills vacant seat on board, O’Leary reelcted as president

By Dwight Esau

Sun City’s board of directors filled a vacancy in its ranks, appointed its 2017 officers, and appointed liaisons to nine advisory and support committees and councils in its organizational meeting on January 11.

Bob Wainscott, who came to Sun City with his wife, Trish, in 2012, was welcomed as the board’s seventh member. Wainscott, who has a financial management background, has served on the Finance Advisory Committee for more than four years and has been chairperson of the group for the past 18 months. He fills a vacancy that existed on the board since mid-2016.

Other new members of the board this year are Robert McGouey, who has also served on the Finance Committee, and Marilynn Berendt, who served last year as chairperson of the Neighborhood Advisory Council. Dennis O’Leary was re-elected to the board by acclamation, along with McGouey and Berendt, all three for two-year terms.

At this same meeting, O’Leary was re-elected board president for 2017 by his fellow board members. Bonnie Bayser was re-elected vice president, and Linda Davis was re-elected secretary. Bob McGouey was elected treasurer, replacing Bill Bendick, who retired from board service at the end of last year. Steve Bytnar, Bayser, and Davis are the holdover board members from 2016.

Sun City’s leadership group also consists of eight advisory resident committees and three councils, all of whom assist and support the board in administering the activities and operations of the community.

Following is a list of committees, their chairpersons, and the board liaisons for 2017.

Activities – no designated chairperson; Bonnie Bayser, board liaison.

Covenants/Compliance – Vicki Goldberg, chairperson; no designated board liaison.

Election Advisory – No designation chairperson, Marilynn Berendt, board liaison.

Facility Advisory – Russ Howard, chairperson; Steve Bytnar, board liaison.

Finance Advisory – Bob Wainscott, chairperson; Bob McGouey, board liaison.

Golf Committee, Harlan Tiesman, chairperson; Bob Wainscott, board liaison.

Neighborhood Advisory Council – Vito Beningo, chairperson; Marilynn Berendt, board liaison.

Charter Club Presidents Council – Dan Bressler, chairperson; Linda Davis, board liaison.

Jim Uszler continues as president of Neighborhood Watch.

The board also discussed, but did not come to a formal agreement, on the possibility of rotating liaison assignments each year so that board members could develop a better understanding of all committees.

Finally, in 2017, residents are reminded that the board meeting schedule and nomenclature has been changed this year. The workshop meeting (formerly called committee of the whole) will be held on the second Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. in the Birch Room of Fountain View Center, and the regular board meeting will be held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. in Drendel Ballroom. All meetings are in Prairie Lodge.

All meetings are open to all residents. Resident comments and questions are permitted at designated times at all board meetings.
