Spring has sprung, and the grass has riz’!
Actually, spring may or may not be here, but the calendar says spring began on March 20.
It is time again for another McHenry County Gardenfest, on Saturday, April 8, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at McHenry County College, Crystal Lake. It is sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension, McHenry County Master Gardeners, and McHenry County College. Cost is $45 and includes lunch.
According to the sponsor, you can “get a much-needed dose of spring and learn about new garden trends, plants and techniques at this event, a day-long series of garden-related seminars, presentations, and workshops.”
There will be more than 30 breakout sessions (presented by industry experts, University of Illinois extension educators, master gardeners, and MCC instructors), and dozens of exhibitors selling books and products and demonstrating their crafts.
Keynote speaker is nationally known garden expert and radio-TV host Melinda Myers, whose topic will be ”Garden Renovations for Any Size Landscape.” Other Gardenfest topics will include how to control garden pests and diseases, dormant deciduous tree identification, cooking with herbs, native plant landscaping, new plants, organic gardening, and garden design.
Registration forms are available online at mchenry.edu/gardenfest. Registration deadline is March 28. Tickets also may be purchased at the door for an added $5 fee. For more information, visit mchenry.edu/gardenfest, or call 815-479-7570.
McHenry County Master Gardeners are a group of more than 130 volunteers sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension. Many members live in Sun City.
