Recently, overheard in Prairie Lodge, was a conversation about poisoning squirrels. Co-incidentally, a neighbor found a dead possum in her yard that may or may not have died of natural causes. I decided to find out if it was legal to poison any wildlife in McHenry County. I called the Wildlife and Conservation Service and found that you have to have a permit to handle in any way, poison or keep as a pet, any wild animal in Illinois.
Putting out poison will kill more animals than just the ones you target. The poison will get into the food chain, not to mention pets that come into contact with the dead animals.
You may not like any animal, wild or domestic, but do you really like seeing our lovely streets of Sun City littered with road kill? With the speed limit imposed here, all animal deaths could be avoided. Sadly, there are some people that go out of their way to hit them.
Viewing wildlife and birds is very enriching for everyone, especially seniors. If you don’t like them, move back to the city….They were here way before you moved in.
