Even though Del Webb Boulevard is Sun City’s most heavily traveled roadway, traffic accidents along it are rare.
But shortly before 2 p.m. on November 20, the road’s good record was marred by a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Del Webb and Cold Springs Drive. One person was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, another driver was ticketed for two violations, and all three vehicles were damaged significantly enough to be towed away.
Huntley police said a 2008 Ford van was traveling westbound on Del Webb, following a Toyota RAV4, which was slowing and preparing to make a right turn onto Cold Springs Drive. The van struck the RAV4, propelling it into a Hyundai Sonata that was southbound on Cold Springs and was stopped at a stop sign at Del Webb.
According to police, the driver of the Hyundai, a Gilberts resident, was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, with minor injuries. The driver of the van, Timothy Sani, 31, of Hanover Park, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and improper lane usage, police said.
About 75 yards east of this intersection, there is a sign warning westbound drivers on Del Webb that they are approaching a dangerous intersection.
