You cannot help but shudder when you hear the “C” word.
Everyone reacts differently to hearing the news, and friends are sometimes at loss for words.
“We are here to raise funds to get rid of this terrible disease,” said Deb Oaks, a Relay For Life coordinator for an event in Huntley Park on June 9. “Our goal is $48,000 this year.”
The American Cancer Society across the nation is holding a signature fundraiser, Relay for Life.
Mary Lou Dorgan, leader of the Sun City team said, “We need volunteers to give not only money but their time and ideas.”
Team Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in thousands of communities and 27 countries. Volunteers give their time and effort because they believe it’s time to take action against cancer.
Dorgan added, “Please come and help make a difference.”

Bob Ibach has been working toward getting extraordinary raffles prizes.
“We have 2 tickets to the Practice Rounds on April 9, 2019, at the beautiful Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. And only 2500 tickets will be sold.” Ibach added, “Beginning in early April, as we did a year ago, Relay For Life will also launch a special sports memorabilia raffle that includes a baseball set of four baseballs in a display case that honors the Cubs World Series 2016 championship in 2016. Additionally, there will be several Super Bowl footballs, and items donated from the Blackhawks, Bulls and other local sports teams. “We need more Corporate Sponsors and businesses to donate funds,” Oaks said. The Huntley Culver’s has been a part of Relay For Life’s mission.

Oaks added that Relay for Life can always use more people to help the mission.
