We are busy with our spring cleaning lists at this time of the year. Winter windows turn into sparkling majesties as they are cleaned to let in bright rays of sunshine. Don’t forget to include your grand and mighty task of organizing on your spring cleaning to do list. Here are four elements of organizing which will improve your home’s management.
Space Invaders: Do you ever think about the possibility of creating more space in your home? You have hidden spots in your closets, and garage just waiting to be tapped into. Take a few minutes each week to identify places you want cleared out. This will be a fun task for you to enjoy. You will surprise yourself with the new space plan you have opened up.
Five Minutes Rule: Sally called and wants to drop by to tell you all about their family’s cruise. Instead of being embarrassed to have her over, you can reply: “Please give me five minutes, Sally.” We all have that active stack we are sorting through. Clear your cluttered workspace by placing the paperwork in a designated drawer of your choosing. You can return to the paperwork when company leaves, and know exactly where you left it. Your home looks neat and tidy simply by not having a lot of paperwork clutter displayed when your company drops in.
Establish Routines: Remember when your Grandma set aside a day for doing laundry and doing banking activities? You can do the same with your home management routines. Pick a day that works for you to open and distribute your mail. Maybe the same day, pay your bills for the week. Once a month, establish a time to review your budget and projections.
Decorate: Place a new wreath out on your front door. Change out some of your pillows you have around your home. Move some of the lamps, or tables, or knickknacks around to new spaces. Change of decor is always fun to explore and demonstrate in your home. Use the closest holiday to display some fun décor. Find a favorite hobby you enjoy and decorate with some accent pieces reminding friends of family of your interests and likes.
