HUNTLEY – A 51-year-old Sun City resident was killed May 21 in a two-car traffic crash at or near the intersection of Algonquin and Haligus Roads in Huntley, police said.

He was identified as David V. Stone, a resident of Neighborhood 11. He was the driver of a 2005 Ford Explorer that collided about 6 a.m. with a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by a 74-year-old resident of Lake in the Hills, who was taken to Entrance Hospital in Huntley with non-life threatening injuries.

Mr. Stone was pronounced dead at the scene. The McHenry County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the same day as the accident.

At press time for this report, police had not released any details about the accident. The crash was still under investigation and no charges had been filed.

The Algonquin-Haligus intersection, on the northeast side of the village, was closed for four hours May 21 while the accident was investigated. Traffic was re-routed in the area with the assistance of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, West Dundee Police, Crystal Lake Police, Lake in the Hills Police, Algonquin Police, Elgin Police, Hampshire Police, the Huntley Community Emergency Response Team, Huntley Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association, and the Huntley Public Works Department.
