“Do I hear $25? How about $30?”
And so it went as Nick Koplos, Master Auctioneer, proceeded over the 6th Annual Stingrays Swim Club Charity Auction, aided by his wife, Joanie Koplos. The yearly festivity once again was located at the Koplos’ Sun City home where 36 members and their significant others and friends enjoyed afternoon donated treats. Held on Saturday, May 19, members’ special talents and treasured possessions were sold to the highest bidder/s, most of whom were present at the party.
The first of this year’s two chosen charities was Laurie Kay’s Stardust Animal Sanctuary located in Richmond. This non-for-profit organization is a rescue for abused animals. The sanctuary also provides therapy horses for use with handicapped children and adults. Located in Woodstock, Turning Point of McHenry County, the club’s second charity, provides domestic shelters and comfort for humans suffering domestic abuse. This year’s Stingrays highly successful get-together netted the phenomenal amount of approximately $1600 to be shared amongst the two charities and the swim club! A special “Shout Out of Thanks” goes to members: Roseann Losasso, Pat McFarland, Nancy Cihlar, and Bill Roth!
