If you have spent even a short amount of time outside in the last month, you are aware of an increase in the mosquito population in our area. The recent rains and high heat has created a floodwater mosquito superbrood of these aggressive mosquitoes.
Our adult mosquito control efforts are ongoing, and treatments have occurred during each of the first two weeks of July to interrupt the breeding cycle. Clarke Mosquito is currently watching the trap counts in our area and will determine the next best time to spray.
Residents can help to control the mosquito population and protect themselves from the associated health risks:
- Drain any standing water around your home.
- Report unusual standing water areas from recent rains to the Mosquito Hotline at 800-942-2555.
- Wear CDC-recommended repellent when mosquitoes are active between dusk and dawn.
