In your Sun Day Issue, Volume 9, Number 16, I thought that Ms. Eudice Germaine letter was most appropriate for my issue. Allow me to explain as follows:

In May of this year, I, as well as so many residence, were shocked by the 6.14% or a total tax increase, by District D-158, so I thought were there was error, in that on 12/14/17, Mr. Mark Altmayer, CPA, Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer Huntley Community School District 158, presented to the District D-158 School Board and I quote…

“At 2.1% a homeowner with a $200,000 home will see an approximate $79 increase in the property tax for the school district. Please note, exclusive of the 2.1%, taxpayers should be aware that the individual bills may go up or down on the individual assessment as determine by the township assessor”:

I contacted Mr. Altmayer to ask him what happens, and was there in error? Also, I ask him what method he used for the $79 increase. He advised me regarding by his method, therein my calculation by his method, indicated that my taxes should be an additional $64.69, certainly not the D-158 TAX of $328,41 presented in the tax bill, for total of $2,934. Again, I contact him, and he said my calculation were correct, however he blamed Kane County and Kane County Treasure, our assessors, and others for the very high increases.

Based on this, I contracted the D-158 School Board regarding this Mr. Altmayer’s alleged error, contrary to his 12/14/17 presentation to the Board, but I received no response from the Board, less one…

So I kindly ask Mr. Altmayer to please inform D-158 Board and the Sun City residence to provide his explanation about his alleged error, but he advised me that the Board was aware, however he will not response to the Sun City residence.

I believe that most of our Sun City Residence desires to help our School, just like other generation did, however, it is now totally out of hand. As you know the Rutland property assessment for the next year is 5% increase, meaning another large D-158 increase.

If you concur with the large increase, so be it…however if you agree with Ms. Eudice Germaine and me, please contact the D-158, our congressperson, Kane Country, the newspaper, Mr. Armstrong of the Assessment office, etc. regarding very high taxes. Without you, nothing will happen.
