Sun City couple transforms their home for Halloween

By Christine Such

We have all seen those houses and neighborhoods in Sun City that have a clear love for the Halloween season. Riding around in Neighborhood 17, you will find most of the mailboxes have jack-o-lanterns atop of the post. One home in Neighborhood 17 might be the most festive of all.

Addie and Mike Metoyer’s home is decorated for the Halloween season from top to bottom.

“Our tables are always set for the season,” said Addie.

The couple doesn’t have a shortage of décor.

“We have about 12 bins of decorations to bring up for Halloween and much more for Christmas. It takes a few days to decorate and always adding a few touches here and there,” Addie said.

The Metoyers worked together to create a their own display of ceramic Halloween homes.

“Mike has built the wood stand that the homes are displayed. He has adjusted it as the number of items has grown,” Addie said.

The Halloween town stands lighted on a three-tier wood base built by Mike covered with black fabric and a starred background.

“We have about 35 houses. It’s a Heinz 57 mix. They are not all Studio 56, some are from past stores, like Zayre and Venture, and some from JoAnn Fabrics. And I have picked up from Estate sales,” Addie said.

The town is organized as any city is.

“We have a theme…we have a funeral parlor, cemetery, and gravestones,” said Addie.

When asked if she has a favorite, Addie couldn’t pick.

“I love them all,” she confessed.

The Metoyers’ 8-year-old grandson is one of their biggest fans and contributor.

“He loves coming over and helping us get everything up and he helps arrange the decorations. Even with his help, it takes us three to four days to get everything up and arranged,” Addie said.

And what does Mike think of all of this?

“I help when I can,” Mike said, mentioning only one reservation about the spooktacular scene in his home. “It’s nice, except the howling wreath on the door.”
