Two Sun City Stingray Swim Club members recently wrapped up their 2018 Senior Games season by participating in the Wisconsin State Senior Swim Olympics. Mark Schark led the charge by winning gold medals for all 6 of his events. Swimming in the 55-59 age group, he garnered gold in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke, 50 and 100 yard freestyle, 100 yard butterfly and 200 yard IM. Schark’s times in his two backstroke events set new Wisconsin all-time records.
Len Lencioni, the other participant from Sun City, won gold for the 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard breaststroke, silver in the 50 yard freestyle, and bronzes in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle. The Stingrays coach swam in the 65-69 age group. Lencioni’s time for the 200 yard breaststroke also set a new Wisconsin record.
Earning medals in the State Senior Games has qualified both men to participate in the National Senior Olympics. The Olympics will be held at Albuquerque, N.M. in June, 2019.
The Stingrays once again will be offering free swim lessons to residents this October. The club’s Swim Clinic will take place on all five Wednesdays of the month from 5-6 p.m. Details and sign up are available at the Prairie Lodge fitness desk.
