Iâve heard it said that the Huntley Area Library is just fine the way it is. Handsome from the outside, inviting and comfortable on the inside. The staff is helpful, cheerful, and friendly; obviously they enjoy working there. Festive decorations brighten the walls and ceiling all year round. Children flock to the story times and clever craft activities. The Huntley Area Library is just fine the way it is.
Au contraire my friend! When you were looking at those ceiling decorations, did you notice the large sheets of plastic hanging from the rafters to catch the water leaking through the roof? The demolition clock is ticking on the life span of the three trailers composing the east end of the structure. Those âtemporaryâ trailers, bought used in 2010, house the childrenâs collection, childrenâs play area, office space for the childrenâs librarians, and the sole Program Room used for all ages, multiple times a day.
Soon construction codes will dictate the 3 trailers be retired and removed. Can you hear the clock ticking on moving the childrenâs book collection, the librarians work/planning area, AND the program space back into the main part of the Library? Look around again at what you think is âjust fine the way it is.â Do you think those plastic sheets are a long-term solution? Where would you put all the childrenâs books? Where would you create space for a presentation on Cut the Cable, or Huntley History, or new tax laws, or genealogy, or read to a dog, or the teddy bear clinic? HmmmâŚsuddenly itâs not just fine the way it is.
The time is now and the answer is YOUR YES vote.
