While Sun City might not dye its Meadow Lake green, it does have a St. Patrick’s Day celebration of its own. Every year, Sun City’s Celtic Club hosts a dinner party, and this will be its 19th one.
John & Carolyn Dwyer attended the party in Drendel Hall.
“Celtic Club is part of our great community. At the St. Patrick’s Day party everyone is Irish, and we all had so much fun!” they said.
The party went all-out. It featured The Banna Irish Duo Band, Guinness stouts, Irish stew with the Emerald Isle’s corn beef and cabbage, and even a pot of gold. The evening hosted a crowd of 180 people on March 7.
Jerry Sauser, President of the Sun City Celtic Club revealed, “Because of the participation, 180 attendees, we had one of our best 50/50 raffle drawings in a long time. All comments regarding Jameson’s dinner were positive. They liked the corned beef and the Irish beef stew. The Banna Irish Duo played a number of selections that involved participation, with some sing-along from the audience, which always helps liven things up.”
Named for one of the most beautiful beaches in Ireland, Banna has been singing Irish favorites together since 2001. They are a group comprised of a voice, guitar, and keyboard.
Sauser continues, “They performed for about eighty minutes. They even pulled me up to the front of the ballroom so I could make a fool of myself, but all good-natured fun. When we have good food and good entertainment, it’s always a win. For our next meeting on April 4, we’ve got “Yesterday’s Future” performing, a popular couple who sings and plays our favorites from the 50s, 60s, and 70s…always a lot of fun.”
Connie Shepherd agreed.
“Food by Jameson’s was great, and the music was fun to sing,” she said.
Other attendees also enjoyed participating in the music.
“The Irish band played lots of good songs, and the hand movements and clapping was really fun,” said Pat O’Dwyer.
Vito Benigno is especially enthusiastic about the party.
“The Celtic Club St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Party was so much fun that it makes me wish every day was St. Paddy’s day,” he said.
