SUN CITY – In 2019, Del Webb Sun City is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and while for many this is an opportunity to reflect on the past, many see it as an important opportunity to look to the future.

Looking forward to Sun City’s Club announcements about anniversary shenanigans still to come, the Tall Oaks Tennis Club (TOTC) is having some fun in planning their Tennis Kickoff with the big anniversary in mind.

Flo Manning, leading the planning the event, said, “All Del Webb residents are invited to attend the Tall Oaks Tennis Club Kickoff Event on Sunday, May 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is open to novice, beginner and experienced players. As in the past, there will be a gamut of tennis games with a delicious luncheon to follow. This is a great opportunity to have some fun and make new friends.”

Esther Skeggs, President of TOTC, wants all Sun City residents to know that “All residents, members, and non-members are invited to meet at the courts and we’re gonna party like it’s 1999.”

Looking into popular foods of 1999, Jean Christie finally decided on popular items: “Sloppy Joes, Fritos-scoops, potato chips, and coleslaw.” A vegetarian sloppy Joe will be offered as well.

No 20th anniversary celebration would be complete without dessert, and Skeggs finalized the decision with, “Rice Krispy Treats and Ghirardelli brownies.”

The selection of music, “will have to be the music popular in ‘1999’ especially Prince!” Kay Osburn added.

Lou Gagliano agree.

“I believe we might have a visit from Prince himself for the event, and yes maybe Cher,” he said.

The Club hopes to encourage the original charter members of 1999 TOTC to join the party.

TOTC asks residents new to tennis to come out and join the event. Skeggs said “Pros will be available for drills and warm-ups.”

John Roccosanto, who designed the invite, welcoms all.

“So bring your best party attitudes down to our definitely Y2K ready courts to have a good time.”

TOTC reminds residents that it is never too late to dust off your racquet or pick up tennis for the first time. Tennis is the sport that allows you to age gracefully, no matter what stage of life you’re in, there’s always a game out there for you. All you need is a tennis racquet and a ball.

To reserve a spot, please provide your name, phone number and a check for $5.00 made out to SCTOTC by May 16 in the Tennis Hut Dropbox or mail to Diane Flanagan, 13680 Honeysuckle Dr., Huntley, IL 60142.
