Sun City celebrates National Night Out

By My Sunday News

What better way to spend an August afternoon than watching Huntley’s first responders battle it out in our annual Sun City National Night Out softball game at Eakin Field, followed by music and free food, from 2:45 to 5:30? Join us in honoring our first responders! National Night Out is an annual event celebrated across the country on Tuesday August 6, and organized here in Sun City by Neighborhood Watch/Neighbors Helping Neighbors. This year is the 17th Annual National Night Out!

Festivities start at 2:45 p.m. with the singing of the National Anthem by the Sun-Tones, followed by a 7-inning softball game between the Huntley Police and the Huntley Fire Departments. The winning team will be awarded a trophy, all first responders and their families will take the field and be recognized, a 60/40 Raffle winner will be announced (you must be present to win!)

After that, attendees can walk over to the model Railroad Train Exhibit, which will be open for their enjoyment, and get a free hot dog (with condiments), chips, and bottled water. The Knights of Columbus provide free ice cream.

The Kishwaukee Valley and Eakin Creek model railroad club will provide a special demonstration of their garden railroad display for the first responders’ families. Their demonstration will start immediately after the softball game.

In addition, Sun City’s very own Sun-Tones will provide for your listening pleasure a medley of “Sing Along” songs.

Neighborhood Watch thanks its wonderful sponsors for National Night Out, including Jewel-Osco, Heartland Bank, Re-Max Unlimited, and the Knights of Columbus. This will be a special day for all, and a great way to honor our first responders!
