This is a summary of discussions held and actions taken at the Sun City Board of Directors meeting on July 24, 2019.
First, The Association received plaudits from two member comments. A resident of Neighborhood 21 praised Sun City as “the best association anywhere,” and praised staff members Deanna Loughran, Chris Lueck, Debby Seger, and Mary Wood. Another resident agreed with these remarks, and added a “shout out” for the 20th anniversary activities held so far.
Another resident expressed concern about what he said was traffic and parking problems at the Tall Oaks Tennis Center recently, and another said he disagreed with the recent conversion of fitness Center offices to therapy rooms operated by Northwestern Medicine.
Ken Kalscheur, chair of the Neighborhood Advisory Council, highlighted accomplishments of the NAC so far in 2019. He said they include identifying 550 sidewalk “tripping” hazards in Sun City, which the village is repairing; a Veterans Fair in Drendel Hall held on August 12; updating the Neighbors Helping Neighbors/Neighborhood Watch brochure; a clarification of ambulance services provided by the Huntley Fire Protection District, and development of a recommendation for a Sun City Technology Plan.
In a Management Report, Deanna Loughran said there are 758 Open Modification projects; and she continued that after 180 days from the date modification projects are approved, the properties are visited by staff to follow up on initial requests.
She also made a shout out to Ursula Stevenson and Christina Santos for their “diligence” in administering the modifications process.
The board also approved Design Guidelines revisions, as amended. President O’Leary said one of the main purposes of the revision was to update and include information on solar power projects.
