Lupo case moves to sentencing

By Dwight Esau

SUN CITY – Anybody remember Jennifer Lupo, former finance manager on the Sun City staff?

Many Sun Citians might have thought recently, that the Sun Day forgot her nearly four-year-old criminal court case in Kane County. That didn’t happen. This legal process has given the word, “finally” new meaning.

After more than a dozen postponements and unconfirmed reports of medical problems and hospitalizations, the 41-year-old former Sun City Finance Director, pleaded guilty on Aug. 14 to one count of unauthorized control of property over $10,000 (in layman’s terms, theft) a class 2 felony. She will be sentenced on October 22 in Kane County Criminal Court.

According to Ann Lambert, criminal court clerk, she waived a jury trial.

This court proceeding began on November 30, 2016, after an investigation by Sun City Association finance employees, the Huntley Police Department, and the Kane County state’s attorney’s office, uncovered personal purchases of association funds in excess of $20,000. On December 9, 2016, Lupo, a former employee of the community’s finance department, turned herself into the Huntley Police Department. She was freed on bond in Kane County criminal court. Since that date, the only significant legal action was the plea by the defendant on August 14.

At the time of her arrest, Lupo was a resident of Lake in the Hills. She worked as finance manager for several years and was terminated at the end of 2015.

She’s been arrested again for stealing a woman’s SSN and obtained credit card.. maybe this time she will serve time. Stealing from the veterans then Sun City and no jail time is ridiculous. She knows someone or has something going on with someone high up in the legal system.
