A Frank Sinatra band, a magic show, and an ice cream sundae bar are just a few of the commodities that residents were treated to in this open floor celebration to commemorate Sun City’s 20 years of commitment to offering a lifestyle of dreams.
Taking place at Prairie Lodge on October 10, over 1,000 residents were in attendance in between two sessions, making it one of the largest events hosted in the community. Lee Orenstien, IT manager of the Sun City Community Association, explained the significance of this event.
“It’s been a year in the planning. We have something like 18 or 19 hundred people coming. This is a very big celebration. It’s a showing of the appreciation and a recognition of their community. This is not our community; it belongs to the residents and it gives them an opportunity to express their pride by joining in. That’s what Sun City’s all about. It’s the social atmosphere that folks enjoy,” he said.
The level of dedication to Sun City residents was made evident by the sea of smiling faces present throughout Prairie Lodge.

“We’ve been here for 20 years and it’s just about giving back to the residents. We’re all celebrating joyous times here. It gives residents a chance to be a part of their community and so they’re all one big happy family,” Kari Sieb, a Communications Assistant for Prairie Lodge stated.
The event would have not been possible without the careful planning and commitment of the Activity Committee who were also involved in organizing various other events throughout the year.
Vicki Goldberg, an Activity Committee volunteer, detailed the long process to ensure the right vendors and time were selected for this extravagant event.
Lines of residents eagerly await entrance to the anniversary festivities.
“Many of the things offered here are a wide variety of vendors and venues that took a year and a half of planning to decide on. We had a preview of the musicians and talked to vendors on who’s going to provide the ice cream, for example. This was all at a price that was made to be very affordable for the residents. That’s the biggest thing, the affordability. We sold out quickly,” Goldberg explained.
At five dollars a ticket, residents were guaranteed a bang for their buck as the event provided plenty of food, drinks, and entertainment for residents to enjoy.
Sun City’s story began in 1999 and since then has continuously kept up its effort to ensure the wellbeing of its residents and keeping true to its motto of “maintaining lifestyle dreams.”
