Update, November 19: In the November 7 edition of the Sun Day, it was reported that Jennifer Lupo, a former employee of the Sun City Finance Department, was sentenced to restitution of funds after she pleaded guilty to theft while working in the Sun City finance staff a few years ago.
It was inaccurately reported that she is legally required to repay $29,300 to the Sun City Community Association of Huntley. In fact, she was an employee of First Service Residential (FSR) when the theft occurred. FSR is the management company that hires and compensates Sun City employees. A Kane County judge has ruled that she is to repay these funds to FSR.
The Sun Day apologizes for this error.
The criminal justice system continues to take its time and very deliberately determine the future of Jennifer Lupo, former member of the Sun City finance department.
Lupo, some Sun Citians may remember, was charged with unauthorized control of property over $10,000 (in laymen’s language, theft) a class 2 felony. She turned herself in to the Huntley Police Department on December 9, 2016, after an investigation of irregularities and missing association funds was discovered by the Huntley Police and the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
After nearly two-dozen status hearings and postponements, Lupo plead guilty to the charge on October 22, in Kane County Criminal Court. In a partial decision, it was determined at an initial sentencing hearing that Lupo will be required to repay the Sun City Community Association of Huntley restitution of $29,300. Further sentencing was scheduled at another hearing set for February 13, 2020. She has been free on bond for the last three-plus years.
She is accused of using association funds to make personal purchases.
First Service Residential corporate, the management company that oversees Sun City’s financial operations, also has been involved in the initial investigation and final determination in this matter.
