Question: I have a badly stained bathroom sink drain; it’s stained rusty. I have tried OxyClean, CLR, bleach, and BonAmi to get rid of the stain. Nothing even makes a dent! It is only in the master bathroom of our Drury model.
Answer: If you have tried all those products with no result, it is probably rust and it cannot be removed. The sink drain flange can be changed but you must identify and purchase the correct part. There is a bolt around this part under the sink that must be removed to release the flange. Review this Youtube video to see how this repair is done.
Question: 14-year-old vanity top has solid ivory colored cast top and sink. Soap dish and small paper cup holder were left in one spot for years and have left a light tan discoloration under each of them. Dish was china and holder was plastic but both left a lack of sun light stain from a skylight?
Answer: I could not find any way to reverse sun fading on a cultured marble countertop. You could put a hand towel over it to hide the discoloration. The countertop is still totally functional so tell your wife you are researching it, but she may have to accept it as patina.
Question: Bought in 1999. Would like to replace all plastic door bumpers, guides, and bottom door sweep. Have had conversation with Kohler. Apparently, enclosure was produced by Kohler. But doors, guides, all aluminum and plastic parts were purchased and supplied and installed by others. Can you help locate supplier to now purchase plastic guides and sweeps?
Answer: Home Depot has large selection of bumpers and guards. Without seeing yours I can’t say if they have your parts, but the best way to find out is to remove the bumpers and guards from your shower and bring them in to Home Depot and match them up to parts in the store. If you are not able to find the ones you need you can search on the internet. There are hundreds of these from many manufacturers.
Tip: While walking around the neighborhood the other day I noticed several hose reels with the hoses attached. The third law of physics states that as water freezes it expands about 10 percent. Hoses cannot expand 10 percent without splitting. If your hose is one of these, you should remove it to a place where it will not freeze.
