Almost the entire world has been shortchanged in how we spend our time. Our daily routines have been dramatically altered. Suddenly, things have changed.
The Coronavirus has sadly taken over. The predictions as to how long the âabnormalâ will last is undetermined. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.
Medical professionals have recommended ways to avoid becoming victims. For the most part millions of people throughout the world have benefitted from their advice. Thousands of fatalities have not been as fortunate.
Social distancing, one of the recommended preventive measures, has had far reaching benefits and, at the same time, has caused serious consequences to workers and businesses, small and large. Jobs are gone. Businesses will fail or suffer irreversible losses soon or in the near future.
As an 86-year-old Sun City 20 year resident much of the setbacks will have no effect on my life, but there are real losses. I realized that I wonât be greeted before my daily pool workout by a smiling desk attendant at the Lodge; no shower and locker room chit chat; no walking around the indoor track; no quiet time in the reading room ;no use of the fitness equipment; no lunch or dinner at Jameson; no classes; no meetings; no special shows; no one to play cards with or any other games; no visits with neighbors and friends; no checking blood pressure; and on and on.
But those losses canât compare with lack of visits and hugs from my children and grandchildren. Not to mention that Betty and I have not been able to welcome our second great-grandson to the family. In the meantime, telephoning, FaceTime and Skype make the separation almost tolerable.
To those who work in businesses continuing to serving us, and to the first responders, to all the doctors, nurses and medical personnel tending to those stricken, and to those honoring social distancingâŚTHANK YOU!

Couldn’t quite believe you would publish an article which makes light of and almost encourages casual sexual encounters by young folks. Not certain that was your audience in the first place. At a minimum the article might have mentioned “safe sex.â Possibly T.R. Kerth, a retired teacher will cover that in the next article–wow!
