Tax bills in Kane county have arrived, it was a happy day for most with larger homes and with large lots, most went down $500 or more. Conversely those with small houses like mine, 1350 sq ft, went up $600 to $1000. When the process is questioned you are told of specialized computer programs, years of training and experience, that the system is fair and right. One element is missing – common sense. Here is an example of the highly flawed system. My house was assessed at $ 200.228 – land portion # 17,920, size .13 acre. On that assessment basis a ONE acre common lot, not on the golf course, in Sun City, is worth $137,950 – If you own a golf course lot, the assessed value is approximately $25,000 for a quarter acre, making a ONE acre golf course lot worth about $100,000. Tell me why a ONE acre golf course lot is worth $30,000 less than a standard 1-acre lot. What a system, no common sense. Now we move one block north on the my street – my model, but now we are in McHenry country -assessment is $191.217 – land portion .31 of an acre, $6740. Size 2.5 times my lot – cost per acre approx $21,750 vs $137,000 + a acre in Kane co. In McHENRY – Grafton township, land values assessments have been relatively stable as well as the total tax bill for most, while my taxes have gone up about $1400 in the same period. Thank you Rutland township assessor Fritz.

I was so sorry to read Geri’s letter. I have lived in SC for 21 years and this is the first time I have heard of vile anti-Semitic acts perpetrated by a homeowner.
The sender was a coward and someone who if he or she signed their name should be reported to the FBI as a hate crime. I hope Geri saved the letter.
I agree with Geri that Pritzker is doing his best to save Illinoisans from the virus unlike out President who just spews hate and has caused the death of over 100,000 innocent Americans of all ages, creeds and faiths because of his inaction and lies.
I think the paper should remove the writers name from their mailing list as this paper was used by an ignorant hater to attack someone for voicing her opinion and for her being Jewish. When good people stay silent, bad things happen.

In spite of the devastating social and economic effects of the COVID 19 virus, we can all be assured that life goes on, ever so slowly, but be assured, life does go on.
After an almost four month shutdown, Management and the Board announced that on June 15 the doors of the Prairie Lodge would be opened. The Meadow view Lodge remains closed until further notice. No classes, the fitness center, meeting rooms, the pools, locker rooms, sauna and hot tub remain off limits for use.
Only the building is open, nothing more. Residents can walk up and down the corridor, sit down and rest, use the rest rooms and lastly visit the Wellness Center, staffed by Northwestern personnel. Anyone entering the Lodge, including staff members, will be required to wear protective masks and maintain the 6 foot social distancing.
An inquisitive mind may raise a question regarding visiting the Wellness Center during phase 3 opening.
When visiting the Wellness Center, precautions to avoid any possible exposure to COVID 19 infections need to be followed. The usual casual walk in policy will not be allowed. Appointments must be made 847-515-2078.
Provider Same Day Sick Services, as additional services, are limited to a few days. Those services raise an observation. The Wellness Center is not an Emergency Room nor is it a Hospital. It is a Wellness center. It would be better if the sick person would seek medical attention at the available medical facilities, rather than the Wellness Center.
Being sick and getting sick of any illness are not limited to certain days of the week. The risk of possible transmission of any type of transferrable infection is to be avoided seven days a week.
The Wellness Center is best used as a Wellness Center.
