Dear Editor:

In The View from Planet Kerth, T.R. Kerth states that President Trump doesnā€™t see a country of systemic racism. The President never said that racism doesnā€™t exist in America. What he did say was that countless millions of people are unfairly being accused of being racist who donā€™t have a racist bone in their body, people like Kerth himself.

He goes on to suggest that the President has the power to correct systemic racism. While he is an incredible leader, no president can or ever could end all racism. President Obama actually said many things that aggravated the problem. Mr. Kerth says the President is compliant, but he has done more for African Americans than any president in my lifetime. Mr. Kerth insinuates that President Trumpā€™s complicity makes him the architect of this racism. I have to wonder how Mr. Kerth could possibly come to such an absurd conclusion given the fact that racism has been an unfortunate reality for as long as humans have existed. So how in the world could President Trump be the architect of it since heā€™s only been president for three and a half years? Iā€™ve even heard media liberals blaming this man for the Covid-19 virus. It seems as though anything bad happening in the universe is the Presidentā€™s fault. This president loves all Americans.

As we watch the destruction taking place in all our big cities that have been run by Democrats for decades, itā€™s becoming pretty obvious that some African Americans have become violently racist against the Caucasian race.

The column by TR Kerth ā€œIā€™m not a racist (and you are too)ā€ was an emphatic, insightful reflection on the complex issues involved in racism in this country.

Just want to share a heartfelt thank you for this thought-provoking article. It adds to the national discussion of racism and highlights how institutional racism is often so built into our communities it can be difficult and even dangerous to label and then correct.

That is why, as Kerth points out, it is so important to have courageous leaders, who can compassionately lead the discussion. Leaders who avoid questioning why we continue to have such racial conflict stall progress.

As election day approaches I pray for wise elected officials at all levels who can help guide us towards solutions.
