Dear Sun Day Reader,
I’d like to introduce you to our new endeavor My Huntley News (or myhuntleynews.com), a fully digital news publication dedicated to covering the Village of Huntley on a hyper-local level.
First, before anyone wonders, the Sun Day is NOT going away. Nor are the two publications going to merge or be combined into one. The Sun Day and My Huntley News are and will remain separate entities, each featuring original content (though you may see some sharing of stories when applicable to both publications).
About five years ago, I developed the idea for a Huntley newspaper. I made mockups, created some artwork, and even met with some village officials to discuss the viability and gauge possible community response. Everything looked good, but alas, it wasn’t the time.
Fast forward to 2020 when the pandemic hit. Amidst the flurry of information circulating news outlets, it became very apparent to me that Huntley seriously lacked a central news source. None of the regional publications were putting out much, if any, news about Huntley, and in a growing community with a population approaching 30,000 people (and against the backdrop of Coronavirus), I found that lack of information unfortunate. A village of this size needs a news source. The very day the lockdowns went into effect, my mind immediately circled back to the Huntley newspaper idea I had five years ago, and after a conversation with our Advertising Manager Kurt Kuehnert and Assistant Editor Kelsey O’Kelley, My Huntley News began.
My Huntley News, or MHN, launches Tuesday, August 18 and offers readers a full range of local news, including daily/breaking, features, sports, lifestyles, A&E, previews, columns, and much more. We’ve spent the last several months assembling an extremely experienced, knowledgeable, and professional staff that will give MHN visitors a quality and informative news experience with no pay wall to its content. The site is free to all and accessible by everyone on your desktop, laptop, or any mobile device. It’s our intention to grow My Huntley News into a community resource where residents can find entertaining and valuable information that effects their daily lives in Huntley.
