Residents that have kept up to date with the SCCAH Board of Directors meetings may already be aware of the Board’s new and old business highlights that took place at the September 23 meeting.
For those unfamiliar, the Board has approved the motion to install cameras in the Prairie and Meadowview Lodges, as well as the Millgrove Woodshop. The camera installations are part of a series of phases to monitor the improvement of security and cost savings as stated by SCCAH Board President, Dennis O’Leary.
“The Board of Directors has voted for the installation of cameras in public spaces of Association property. They will be used for two purposes,” O’Leary said. “Security- With reduced staff, we no longer have personnel in all areas of our buildings. Cameras would be used to monitor areas of our property where staff no longer exists. Also, since sometimes Association property is stolen, we could use cameras to help identify perpetrators. While the cameras will not always be monitored, they may, on occasion, help a resident in distress. (This is an area still under discussion).”
There is also a second purpose of the cameras.
“Cost savings – There is an outcry for more open time in some areas of the facilities. More open time now would mean additional staff. If cameras were available, we may be able to hire a monitoring service that would allow us to open facilities without onsite staff for a fraction of the cost,” O’Leary said. “We use cameras now to allow access to the Prairie Lodge building. As we learn more about them, we believe that there are other beneficial uses for cameras and Phase 1 is the beginning of this learning process.”
As for the next order of business highlighted in the September 23 Board of Directors meeting, the Board passed a motion allowing First Service Residential Executive Director, Deanna Loughran, permission to engage with Cornerstone Partners to construct a spillway at Wildflower Lake. The motion was approved unanimously by the Board of Directors.
O’Leary explained the reason for the proposed construction of the spillway.
“The ebb and flow (Flooding) of the creek (Whisper Creek; I guess it doesn’t always whisper!) adjacent to Wildflower Lake causes water to cover the trail around the lake. Last Spring’s flooding has caused undermining of the trail in this particular zone of the trail. An Engineering consulting firm has identified the source of the undermining and has proposed corrective action to ensure the integrity of the path. Cornerstone Partners will be making the modifications needed to correct the undermining problem.”
The cost of the spillway should not exceed costs of $49,931.44 according to the meeting minutes document.
