Truck traffic and bicycle signage were topics during the Members Comments segment of the June 23 Sun City Board meeting. One resident voiced concern with the current and future increase of tractor trailer traffic on Del Webb Boulevard resulting from the future Amazon distribution center. Another spoke in favor of additional signage alerting drivers to cyclists and pedestrians on the communities streets.
In his Presidentās report, Vito Benigno stated that āa meeting with the Huntley Village Mayor and City Manager has been scheduledā to specifically discuss the potential increased Del Webb Boulevard truck traffic. The possibility of lowering the maximum legal weight on the street was mentioned.
The Facilities Advisory Committee had reviewed a request from the Cyclepaths Bicycle Club for additional signs to alert drivers to the presence of bike riders and pedestrian walkers on the streets. The committeeās report to the board indicated a recommendation that no changes to the existing signs be made and that, in the committeeās opinion, that there was no evidence that signs are persuasive in increasing safety.
After discussion, the Board agreed that adding wording to the existing Golf Cart permissible community signs alerting drivers to bicyclists along with one additional sign in the community regarding bicyclist would be sufficient. It was suggested that input from the Village was needed to conform to the Villageās sign ordinance.
The Treasurers Report was presented by Bob McGouey. He reported operating results show āa $258,000 net surplusā in actual versus budget expenses.
McGouey also reported that āthere has been 119 homes soldā year-to-date. This is 39 more than 2020 year-to-date.
Art Ryden reported that āThe next Charter Club Presidentās Council meeting will be on July 9ā and that āthe Charter Club Expo will be on August 30.ā
āThe facilities committee will begin its review of the 2022 budgetā at their next meeting reported Bob Wainscott.
āThe draught has helped with weed control at Whisper Creek,ā reported Russ Howard. He continued, āthe lack of rain has kept the weeds from growing which make the weed killer more effective.ā
Howard reminded the Board that the golf course is an important part of the community and that āitās not owned by Sun City but by a private company.ā
Dottie Harrison reported that ā27 of the 34 neighborhoods have submitted their documents for recertification for Neighborhood Watch status.ā
Under Old Business, President Benigno clarified that a Charter Club officer or designated representative could respond to Board questions pertaining to the Charter Club during Board meetings. The officer or representative is required to register with the Board Secretary prior to the Board meeting to then be permitted to address the Board during the meeting.
Motions were made and approved under New Business regarding the 2020 Audit and the timeline of future Board elections.
The Board is waiting for all of the Advisory Committees to submit their feedback on the Strategic Plan before the plan is officially adopted by the Board.
The Board meeting was broadcast via YouTube. The quality of the audio continues to be marginal with Board member and resident comments garbled. Approximately 25 residents were in attendance in the Birch room with another 20 viewing the meeting on-line.
The next Board meeting is scheduled for July 28.
