Sun City Stingray members recently wrapped up the 2021 Senior Games season by participating in the Illinois State Senior Olympics Meet, September 17-19, in Springfield, IL. Bill Schaupp led the charge by winning 5 golds in the 80-84 age group. His medals came in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle, 50-yard butterfly, 50-yard backstroke and 100-yard Individual medley races. Len Lencioni, swimming in the 70-74 age group, took gold in the 50 -and 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard Individual medley races. Mark Schark (60-64) garnered gold medals in the 50-, 100-, and 200-yard backstrokes, 100-yard butterfly and a silver medal in the 50-yard freestyle. Schark’s time in the 200-yard backstroke event set a new Illinois All-time Record! Earning medals at the State Senior Games has qualified the three Stingrays’ swimmers to participate in the National Senior Olympics! These Games will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in May, 2022.
