Village Board meeting highlights include 2022 special-events calendar

By David Goode

HUNTLEY – Barb Read, Special Events coordinator for the Village, received authorization to proceed with the implementation of the 2022 Special Events and Special Event Banner program.

The events calendar includes the Indoor and Outdoor Farmers Market, a Fun Run for Special Olympics, a May 5 Ladies Night out on the Square, the Annual Memorial Day Parade, the Independence Day Fireworks, National Night Out, Huntley High School Homecoming Parade, Veteran’s Day Ceremony and Wreaths Across America.

Read announced that at the “2021 Green & Clean Huntley Day that 871 cars entered the event and 125 pounds of unwanted medications were collected and three dumpsters were filled with unwanted household items.”

In addition, Read reported that “the Tuesday night concerts in the square attendance ranged from 650 to 2,200. And that most concerts had approximately 1,500 attendees.”

She concluded that “local businesses donated $10,600 toward the concerts and special events in 2021.”

Gas station alcoholic beverages?

Ronda Goldman, Village Trustee, said “if pharmacies can sell beer and wine, then why not gas stations.”

The Huntley Village Board passed a resolution at the January 27 Board meeting authorizing the Village Attorney to draft an amendment to the ordinance covering “the issuance of liquor licenses to businesses engaged in the sale of gasoline or gasoline-related products.”

The amendment would allow the Village to issue licenses for the sale of beer and wine to gas stations within the Village limits if any gas station were to apply for said license.

Another warehouse coming to huntley

Reiche Partners, LLC, has submitted a proposed site plan to the Village for conceptual review of a 175,600 square foot warehouse, storage and distribution building located at 13801 George Bush Court.

The property is located west of Route 47, south off Dahmer and backs up to I-90. It’s behind a building occupied by the Rohrer Company.

Adam Reiche said that the “175,600 square foot size fit a niche not served by other warehouses in the area.”

He continued that “the property would have space for 200 cars and the building would have 50 semi-trailer parking slots.” He stated that “the plan is to start construction this summer.”
