Herman Faubl, Chairman of the Sun City Civics Committee, has announced that the previously scheduled October 3 Candidate Forum with Representative Bill Foster and challenger Catalina Lauf has been cancelled.
On August 31 Representative Foster’s office notified the committee that “Congressman Bill Foster is no longer available to attend the Forum on October 3.”
On September 1 Candidate Lauf posted the following tweet, “My opponent refuses to debate me.”
Nancy Glissman, Civics Committee member, reported on September 3rd that “Bill Foster’s people had previously indicated to me that they are willing to reschedule. They also indicated that they want to make sure that both candidates sign off on the rules of the forum.”
Barry Newman, Civics Committee member, commented “I’m wondering whether a Zoom format for the candidates can resurrect the forum for a mutually agreeable time. Interested Sun City residents would still get to see and hear the candidates exchange ideas, and questions from residents could be solicited via Community Update email and submitted to us online and/or through a Prairie Lodge dropbox.”
Newman continued, “We were told a couple of months ago that October 3rd was a tentative date for Bill Foster because he may need to be in DC. Was that the reason given for his unavailability to us? Does anyone know if any debates between them are scheduled? If so, perhaps we can post a link to it on our website if we cannot hold our own Zoom forum.”
Faubl commented, “It seems to me that Congressman Foster’s people are being somewhat unreasonable. Unfortunately, I think the situation is dead.”
