I would like to address the opinion of two letter writers.
First, Herm Faubl.
He seems to know little about women, their health and pregnancy.
As a medical professional, I can assure him that Reproductive Health Care is about much more than just terminating a pregnancy.
The CDC identifies the 6 most underlying causes of pregnancy-related death.
1. Mental Health Conditions.
2. Hemmorage
3. Cardiac and coronary conditions
4. Infection
5. Thrombotic embolism and
6. Cardiomyopathy.
According to the ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) pregnancy can exacerbate underlying or preexisting conditions.
There are situations when pregnancy terminations is the only medical intervention that can preserve a woman’s health or save her life.
Then there’s the fact that infertility affects many women.
Thankfully, with medical science, much progress has been made with IVF.
When those embryos are produced, are they considered persons?
If so, what to do with leftover embryos? If embryos are frozen, shall they stay in storage for perpetuity?
What happens if an embryo does not successfully implant and lead to the formation of a fetus?
Should the woman be prosecuted and imprisoned for a miscarriage?
This information can all be found if you Google it!
As for Donna Roche’s letter, CRT is only learning, reading and education of American History and Sociology.
In other words, learning from our own real past, learning about people who are different from yourself in race, gender, sexuality and culture.
This is information that will bring people together, know each other, understand each other – not divide us.
And voting for Ms. Lauf is voting for someone who has stated that in Illinois schools “kids are using litter boxes” and that Illinois teachers have been forced to call students “furries.”
All statements that have been completely debunked.

In response to the Hang Your Hat article declaring abortion as a Constitutionally protected Right, this information is incorrect. Abortion was never declared a Right in the U S Constitution, nor in the Amendments to the Constitution. And the statement that doctors saving a mother’s life would be charged with murder if the doctor chose the mother’s life over the baby’s life is fiction. This would never happen in the manor the writer described. State laws protect doctors and nurses in these horrible scenarios.
I used to preach to my students, words have meanings and those meanings have consciences. Too often people argue one side of a discussion without ever hearing the other side. Both sides of all disagreements have valid arguments in their own minds. What separates the genuineness of any argument is the truth. With the divisiveness of our current political atmosphere, the truth is frequently ignored and facts are often replaced by ideology. Politics be damned, we as a nation of thinkers must come to agreement on one thing: to cherish and respect honesty in our spoken word.
One of the rock-solid foundations of this nation is Free Speech guaranteed through the Bill of Rights in the U S Constitution. This inalienable right is considered a cornerstone of our Republic. People are free to say many things that may be disagreeable to others with exceptions. One of those exceptions is deliberate dishonesty in the written word as well as the spoken word. Laws against libel and slander exist to control false speech. This was meant to ensure dialog, argument, and discussion among people. People are encouraged to use information and facts to present their side of an issue, but they are not allowed to invent information or their own facts.
Abortion is not a federally protected Right and has never been one. Abortion as well as thousands of other issues was relegated to the states in what is called state’s rights. The voters in all states can choose the elected officials that they believe are likeminded and will legislate according to their wishes. Example, pro-abortion laws or anti-abortion laws.
Some states made marijuana legal, others did not. Two states made certain psychedelic drugs legal. Speed limits vary widely from state to state. Criminal statutes differ from state to state. Whatever is not specifically outlined in the U S Constitution as a federal responsibility is relegated to the individual states to decipher. All states may now protect the right to an abortion or outlaw abortions, or compromise on any remedy in between. Abortion is controlled by individual states, not the federal government.
Finally. People are saying that the U S Supreme Court Justices are radicals for returning the abortion question back to the states. Still others are saying that the original U S Supreme Court Justices that made abortion a federal issue were themselves radicles. Interesting how two conflicting viewpoints can be made of the same issue.

Over the past several months it’s become even more obvious how important voting can be to maintain our democracy. That is why the upcoming election for the County Clerk is crucial.
The Clerk is responsible for efficient and unbiased elections. If done right, the Clerk will make sure voters are notified where to vote, avoid ballot errors, promote voting by making polling locations easily accessible and consistent, and avoid constantly moving or closing polling places unnecessarily.
Unfortunately, the present County Clerk of McHenry County has not effectively provided these services. Ballot errors have occurred every election, polling places have not been identified correctly which is confusing to voters. Additionally, some polling places have been unnecessarily closed or moved long distances making it more difficult for voters in this county to be able to vote.
McHenry County deserves better! This is why I’m encouraging you to learn more about the past problems we have had with elections, then choose a candidate who can professionally oversee our elections to avoid these problems. Fortunately, we have a candidate running this year who has the skills and experience to restore trust in our election process. That person is Mary Mahady. Check out her website (www.marymahady.com/index.html) to explore why she has the qualifications and proven track record to get the job done!
