On October 13, the Sun City Neighborhood Advisory Council (NAC) hosted a community wide food drive to benefit Grafton Food Pantry. This was the first time the event was held. A committee was formed and the ideas came flooding in on how to make this idea a reality. Over 40 Sun City residents volunteered and braved the cooler temperatures and wind to assist with the drive-thru operations at Fountainview.
It was an overwhelming success with over 260 residents participating. Over $4000.00 in donations was collected. Nine volunteers from Neighborhood 24 had a caravan of drivers who delivered 17 carloads of food items, paper goods and personal care items to the Pantry.
Event Chairperson Jim Papak said, ”We were unsure as to how this event would be received. It required a lot of planning and coordination over several months. My committee of: Ana Arana, Sheri Goldstein, Val Tomanica, and Sandy Smith did a fantastic job to make sure that the event ran smoothly. We were so pleased with the turnout of volunteers and participants.”
Harriet Ford, Grafton Food Pantry Board of Directors, stated “This event exceeded all expectations. The generosity of Sun City residents is unparalleled. We are so grateful to NAC, all of the volunteers and the Sun City residents who came out to support local families in need.”
