A carnivore’s dream come true

By My Sunday News

Jim and Nancy do not disclose the fact that they will review a restaurant before they attend, ensuring their reviews are unbiased and uninfluenced by their position with the Sun Day.

Since prehistoric times, men have hunted for meat and cooked it over fire. Fire and meat, good… What better way to make Jim happy than to take him to a restaurant that serves meat, and meat, and even more meat. I thought of a place to take him, but upon checking the website, the dinner would cost $59.99 per person and lunch would be $32.99 per person. Making him happy is not worth the extra money, so I decided to take him there for a week day lunch. The name of this carnivore’s “dream come true” is the Texas de Brazil Churrascaria at the Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg.

Texas de Brazil Churrascaria

5 Woodfield Mall – Suite D312
Schaumburg 60173

Directions: Take Rte. 47 South to I-90 East to Rte. 53 South to Woodfield Mall.

Estimated Travel Time: 35 minutes

The inside of this restaurant is elegantly appointed and holds up to 312 people. After the waiter took our drink order, the busboy brought over a basket of warm, sinfully delicious morsels of chewy Parmesan bread balls that were absolutely addicting. You can’t eat just one.

The center of the restaurant boasts the largest salad bar you will ever see, having no less than 50 selections to choose from. Even the salad bar has meat items in the form of salami and bacon. There are a lot of unusual items that you normally don’t see such as: onion ceviche, Brazilian hot peppers, and Nancy’s favorite, roasted garlic cloves. Next to the salad bar is a hot table with soups, sauteed mushrooms, and various hot items. Don’t be afraid to try something new.

While you are enjoying your salad, the busboy brings over French fries, mashed potatoes, and fried bananas. We think the fried bananas should be saved for dessert since they are warm and gooey with cinnamon sugar dusted all over them.

Now the fun begins. Every place setting is given a round carboard marker with a red side and a green side. When Nancy turned it to the green side, young men in Gaucho pants came running over to her. She had a hot flash and was speechless! I also was speechless because each Gaucho carried a sword with various selections of meats. The Gaucho then slices off a piece that is to your liking. Examples of the meat selections are, Parmesan Chicken Drumettes, lamb, flank steak, chicken breast wrapped in bacon, and these incredible smoked Brazilian sausages. When your plate is full, turn the marker over to red. When you finish that portion, turn the marker over to green, and the process starts all over again.

The meats are cooked “Churrasco” style, which means on a rotisserie over charcoal and the meat is seasoned to perfection. Each sword has rare, medium, and well-done temperatures to satisfy every taste. If not, they will cook it to order and come running back to your table. WARNING: Don’t be too fussy, they are carrying swords!!!

This is a place to go with friends, take your time, and eat meat to your heart’s content. The waitstaff does not rush you, and the flavor of all the meats have to be experienced to be believed.

The price to satisfy the carnivore in Jim was $83.42. Nancy seeing men in uniform, priceless…

FYI: This restaurant is handicap accessible and no matter what time of day or night, make reservations, they prefer it that way.

Jim’s take: The creamy jalapeno soup and the Brazilian sausages were my favorites.

Nancy’s take: Today I went for the meat! I just wanted to get those men in Gaucho pants to come and see me. I adored the fried bananas and the cheese bread balls.
