Honor Flight Chicago (9701 W. Higgins Rd Suite 310, Rosemont, IL 60018-4703 — 773-227-8387), the largest of 131-Honor Flight hubs in the USA, hosted its 110th Honor Flight for WW II, Korea, and Vietnam Veterans Wednesday, August 23.
Four veterans from Huntley, Illinois were greeted (3:30 a.m.) by over 250 Honor Flight volunteers who assisted them to get photographed; a polo shirt; a name ‘tag’ with a color-coded ‘lanyard’ that divided the group, 111-Veterans, 29-Guardians, 13-Nurses, 1-Doctor; and 6-Bus Captains, into 6-charter bus groups for the Washington, D.C. tour; breakfast, a boarding pass; and a back pack.
Honor Flight was established in 2004 to honor USA Veterans with a complimentary flight to tour the World War Two (WWII) Memorial; Air Force Memorial; Lincoln Memorial; Korean War Memorial; Vietnam War Memorial, and the National Air and Space Museum.
Honor Flight Chicago (HFC) has honored 6,345 WWII, 2,199 Korean, and 1,865 Vietnam servicemen and women since its inception. In addition to the Chicago contingent on August 23, 2023, an Honor Flight (170-Veterans) from Springfield, Missouri toured Washington, D.C. memorial sites simultaneously in reverse order, to minimize congestion!
