It’s no stretch to say that yoga has created some calm in Huntley. Every Friday at 12 p.m., WHRU-LP or 101.5 FM, Huntley Community Radio, presents “Breathe ‘N Bounce.”

Mike Caserno is the host of the show. Caserno said, “We discuss yoga spirituality with a positive vibe.”

Caserno is a Huntley resident and is the owner of Huntley Hills Transportation that many Sun City residents use for their travels. He also owns School Bells Transportation, providing transportation for students in many McHenry and Kane Districts over 10 years.

How did he get interested in yoga?

“I started practicing yoga in 2017. I hit a rough patch in my life and yoga helped me,” he said.

Caserno is planning on completing the 200 hours requirement for certification as a yoga instructor by December.

Caserno has guests on his show to talk about the benefits of yoga.

Debbie Smith, Sun City resident and certified yoga instructor, was invited to talk about “dog yoga.” Smith volunteers at Young at Heart in Woodstock, where Dog Yoga classes take place.

Smith said, “We invite anyone to come and enjoy a yoga class in Peaches’ Meadow with the beauty of nature and the senior dogs of Young at Heart in Woodstock.”

Caserno asked, “Do you do yoga with the dogs?”

“No. This exclusive one-hour yoga class in the beautiful natural play area at Young at Heart. After that, we have a 30-minute social with the senior dogs. If you are lucky, you will get a dog kiss,” she said.

Caserno asks his guests, “What brought you to the mat?”

Smith said, “The mat came to me. Yoga gives me what I need to think about: self-care, self-awareness, slowing down and the ability to be grounded. I believe in karma. Yoga is life-changing. Dogs give you unconditional love, and I merged them.”

Both are fond of the saying by Maya Angelou, “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”
