After nearly a 24 year long run delivering Sun City’s mail in Huntley Illinois, carrier Maggie Thielen made the final stop of her career on August 11. She had been the city’s mail carrier “since its beginning.”
Thielen attended Thornton Community College in Harvey, Illinois, which is an hour and a half away from Sun City. After that, she began her journey as the town’s mail carrier in August of 1999.
Thielen recalled having “a lot of emotions going on” during this time. She “decided to retire, [and] sell [their] home to move across the country to California”. Thielen felt it was in her best interests to go through with this. She claimed that unfortunately “the changes at the Post Office” were a contributing factor, due to them being “not exactly beneficial.”
Even so, Thielen said, “I absolutely love being a mail carrier. I know my customers and my customers know me. That is what I always strive for. I spoiled my customers”.
This reputation definitely precedes her, as a sign displayed for her reads: “‘Last Stop. But not the end of the Journey. 8-11-2023.”
But Thielen is still humble.
“Yes I made mistakes,” she said. “I’m human, but my work ethic goes above and beyond.”
