Sunflower Garden Club transitions to winter to host annual holiday walk

By Christine Such

A holiday tradition for Sun City Sunflower Garden Club is the House Walk for Charity.

This year the event is on December 14, from 1-5 p.m. Sun City residents’ homes, decorated for the holidays, will be open to visitors. This is a ticketed event and may sell out.

Joyce Zito, club member, said, “The tickets are $10 and proceeds will go a charity chosen by each homeowner.”

The Garden Club has donated to various organizations. Zito said, “We received a note from the Make-A-Wish Foundation stating their thanks, ‘…together with your donation, over 13000 children with life-threatening conditions have been granted their wishes.’ This was made possible because of the generous support of our community.”

These beautiful homes are sure to inspire your own holiday decor. The homes will showcase holiday collections of the Northwoods, gingerbreads, miniature villages, trains, and Christmas trees decorated with treasured ornaments.

Zito said, “For those who have attended this event in previous years, you know this is a wonderful way to get into the spirit of season by visiting these festively decorated homes.”

Marchia Geitz, co-chair of the Sunflower Club event, said, “You can contact me at 224-858-4843. There are only 350 tickets being sold. They do go fast.”

Zito said, “We especially want to thank our sponsor, Century 21 New Heritage – Huntley Office.”
