Spotlight on Huntley Rotary

By Christine Such

The Huntley Rotary Club was chartered on May 17, 2000, and has contributed to many worthwhile projects locally and worldwide.

Jim Uszler, Sun City resident and member of the Rotary Club, said, “Just recently, we held a coat drive for the Grafton Food Pantry patrons who need coats.”

The Rotary Club’s local projects raise awareness and funds for local non-profit groups. Uszler said, “We have a fun group and even enjoy getting together to clean up a portion of Haligus Road that we have adopted.”

The Huntley Rotary Club holds its meetings on the first Tuesday of the month at 12:15 p.m.

Uszler stressed the need for volunteers, saying, “We need volunteers to pick up food donations for Grafton Food Pantry that are left at businesses that have drop boxes for donations: Heartland and BMO Bank, Brunch CafĂ©, Huntley Library, and the Huntley Park District. Volunteer participation is crucial for the success of our projects.”

This year, the Village of Huntley, Huntley Park District, and Rotary Club of Huntley celebrated Pollinator Week by planting a new pollinator garden at the south end of Betsey Warrington Park. They have also awarded scholarships to Huntley students.

The Running of the Elves, A Very Merry Huntley Event, is significant and enjoyable for the entire family.

Uszler said, “The event is scheduled on Saturday, December 7, and we have a planned route that starts in downtown Huntley at the Square. There is a ‘Dash for Kids,’ a 5K run/walk, and a one-mile fun walk. If you can’t do the course, we are looking for volunteers to help as marshals for the event.”

All registered participants will receive the official “Running with the Elves Race Shirt” and an elf hat. The “Running with the Elves” proceeds will support our community and provide scholarships for Huntley students.

Uszler said, “Our club members are dedicated people passionate about community service and friendship. We invite volunteers to serve or join our club, form lifelong friendships, and experience the joy that service to others brings.”
