This March, the Huntley Rotary Club invites Sun City residents to listen to a series of speakers organized by the Rotary’s Mental Health Task Force. The Rotary Club has long been involved in mental health and wellness initiatives. Rotary’s culture of “Service Above Self” builds community and promotes acts of kindness.
Jim Uszler, a Sun City resident and Rotarian, said, “This series on mental health created by Northern Illinois Rotary clubs welcomes all residents to view on Zoom. The Rotary Club of Huntley focuses on many local health issues that impact our community. If you would like to learn more, visit HuntleyRotary.org.”
Mental health is essential for everyone, and it can be affected by many factors, including life changes, physical decline, and medications. Seniors may experience mental health stressors such as the loss of a loved one, a serious illness, or physical decline. These changes can lead to feelings of grief, loneliness, or social isolation, which can develop into mental illnesses like depression and anxiety.
The series began on January 6 of this year, and will continue to be scheduled on the first Monday of each month. The presentations are designed for your comfort and are easily accessible from your home. A different, intriguing topic will be discussed each month, keeping you engaged. The presentations will be on Zoom, a user-friendly platform, on the first Monday of each month from 12:00 to 12:30. No registration is required.
February’s speaker, Cassy Horton, is the Executive Director of Pickles Group, a nonprofit organization supporting the social and emotional well-being of children whose parents have cancer. Other speakers for the year include esteemed professionals like Mental Health Speaker John Kilner, PhD in medical decision-making, and Tish Rudnicki, MSW, specializing in issues of aging.

Registration information asks that guests come dressed in 50s attire, poodle skirts and blouses with chiffon neck scarves, bobby socks, and saddle shoes. Men dress in a bowling shirt or ‘Grease’ attire. The event includes the chance to solve a murder and dinner. A cash bar will be on-site, and access to Silent Auction. $10 from every couple and $25 from every table’s registration, and all proceeds from the evening’s silent auction will support the Rotary Club of Huntley! Register for the event at HuntleyParks.org.
