Sun City’s Civic Committee invites residents to meet the candidates for the Village of Huntley’s President’s position.

Vito Benigno, a member of the Civic Committee, is chairing the event. He emphasizes, “We hope that residents participate in the forum. The Civics Committee is committed to arranging non-partisan programs that benefit all residents of Sun City, ensuring a fair and balanced platform for all candidates. With our non-partisan approach, we believe events like this provide information that helps shape our community’s future.”

The Civics Committee was established in 2009 and is under the umbrella of the Lifestyles Committee. Jim O’Connor, Co-Chair of the Civics Committee, said, “We are especially thankful for staff member Shannon Smith, who works hard to help with the arrangements for our events.”

The committee’s first event this year was a unique opportunity for residents to meet the new Executive Director, Brian Gregory. O’Connor said, “Although we hosted this event, Brian has actively engaged with residents at various events and meetings. The event provided a chance for those residents who have not yet met Brian to do so.”

The Forum for the Huntley President Candidates, an opportunity open to residents, is scheduled for Tuesday, February 4, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Drendel Ballroom. Timothy Hoeft, the current President of Huntley, is running for re-election, and his opponent is John M. Piwko.

Benigno said, “The candidates will be introduced with a brief background. An audience question-and-answer session will follow presentations by both candidates.”

There are also vacancies for the Village Board of Trustees, but the candidates are uncontested.

Benigno said, “Some candidates are familiar to Sun City residents, Marilynn Berendt, Don Walz, and J.R. Westberg. Marilynn and Don are new to the position. Residents will also have a chance to chat with them.”

O’Connor said, “Please register for the event, LCV31.”
