The Sun City Civics Committee is hosting a “Meet the D158 School Board Candidates” event on Monday, February 24, at the Prairie Lodge Birch Room from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Ten candidates are running for a position on the School Board: Dana Wiley, Andrew Fekete, Richard Bobby III, Corine Burns, Sean Cratty, Jim Hollich, Cassie Khurana, Melissa M. Maiorino, Andrew Martin, and Paul A. Troy. Dana Wily and Andrew Fekete are running for a 2-year term (one position open), and the other eight candidates are running for 4-year terms (4 positions open).
Jim O’Connor from the Civics Committee said, “Because there are ten candidates, we decided to make this an open event where residents, after introductory remarks, can visit the candidates and ask questions one-on-one. We didn’t think there would be sufficient time in a forum setting for each candidate to speak and answer questions.”
The district serves nearly 9,500 students and employs over 1,400 staff members. It is one of the fastest-growing districts in the state of Illinois. The district has nine schools across three campuses. Huntley Community School District 158 is governed by a Board of Education of seven members serving without compensation. The term of office is four years.
O’Connor said, “The School Board election is April 1, and this is a great opportunity to understand each candidate’s goals and standards as policy is set for the future of Huntley Schools. Please register for Event LCV 30.”
The Civics Committee has other events planned for 2025. In April, you can join a tour of the Huntley School District; in May, there is a Senior Services Forum with Social Service Agencies in the area. A tour of the Huntley Police Department will take place in June.
